“Bitter and Be Gay”
Introducing CARLY OZARD!

(Everything She Touches Turns To Gay!)
ONE NIGHT ONLY! * September 26, 2008 at 7:00 PM

Octavia Lounge * 1772 Market St. * San Francisco * 94114

Musical Direction by Barry Lloyd * Written By Shawn Ryan

"Imagine a cabaret version of Kathy Griffin and you’ll begin to get the idea.... Ozard, accompanied by pianist Barry Lloyd and bassist Daniel Fabricant, likes to refashion lyrics to songs to suit her show’s theme, usually to good comic effect, and when she chooses to use her big Broadway belt, she can make a strong emotional connection with her audience.....This was an auspicious beginning to what could be a bright cabaret career. It’s been too long since we had a brassy, belting broad on the local cabaret stage." ~Chad Jones - Theater Dogs (Jul 22, 2008)

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

No stranger to local musical theatre, Bitter and Be Gay! marks Carly Ozard’s one-woman cabaret debut. In addition to regional leads as “Ol' Mother Hare” in 42nd St. Moon's The Golden Apple, “Nettie Fowler” in Carousel with the Lamplighters, and a featured role as “Sally Durant Plummer” in Follies opposite San Francisco Cabaret legends Barry Lloyd, Lua Hadar, Russ Lorenson and Linda Kosut, Ozard participated in The Bracebridge Dinner in Yosemite CA in 2007. A classically-trained mezzo-soprano, Ozard performed with Foothill Music Theatre, Broadway by the Bay, Altarena Playhouse, Notre Dame de Namur and as a cantor at the Castro’s Most Holy Redeemer Church. A frequent co-host of Open Mic at Octavia Lounge on Fridays, Ozard regularly performs at Martuni’s as a featured guest at Katya Presents! and in Trauma Flintstone's Bijou Nights. Ozard made her Plush Room debut in November 2007. On June 30, Ozard joins an all-star cast for You've Got Possibilities! the annual 42nd St. Moon Gala at the Alcazar Theatre. She studies voice with Baker Peeples and has coached with Barry Lloyd and Michael Lavine.

BItter and Be Gay! - July 20, 2008

"Such a busy weekend so full of entertainment treats. Here’s a quick recap.

Friday night, on a whim, I headed down to the Octavia Lounge for the official cabaret debut of homegrown diva Carly Ozard, a musical theater performer about town. Her show, Bitter and Be Gay, is all about how men she meets while performing in musical theater usually turn out to be gay. The show’s cute tag line is: “Everything she touches turns to gay.” Imagine a cabaret version of Kathy Griffin and you’ll begin to get the idea.

Ozard, accompanied by pianist Barry Lloyd and bassist Daniel Fabricant, likes to refashion lyrics to songs to suit her show’s theme, usually to good comic effect, and when she chooses to use her big Broadway belt, she can make a strong emotional connection with her audience.

Unfortunately, Ozard’s show was a one-night-only gig, but if the folks at Octavia Lounge are smart, they’ll bring her back. This was an auspicious beginning to what could be a bright cabaret career. It’s been too long since we had a brassy, belting broad on the local cabaret stage."
